Wild Woods
Step beneath the twisting branches and uncover one of Chessington World of Adventures’ most historic lands. Wild Woods may feel like an enchanted forest today, but its story begins in 1990, when it first opened as the gothic village of Transylvania.
From the very beginning, this area helped define Chessington as a theme park destination. It introduced two major attractions that quickly became icons. On one hand, guests could soar through the skies on Vampire, a suspended roller coaster that delivered the sensation of flight. Meanwhile, others explored Professor Burp’s Bubbleworks, a chaotic, fizzy pop factory filled with colour, humour and unforgettable music.
As a result, Transylvania became a fan favourite almost instantly. Its rich theming, combined with groundbreaking attractions, set a new standard for immersive experiences in the UK. However, while the land remained largely unchanged for years, subtle changes began to reshape its identity.
Then, in 2017, everything changed. The area was reimagined as Wild Woods, bringing a lighter, more family-friendly tone to the once spooky village. This transformation arrived alongside The Gruffalo River Ride Adventure, which replaced the former Bubbleworks attraction. Consequently, the land shifted from gothic mystery to storybook charm, opening the doors for a new generation of visitors.
Today, Wild Woods seamlessly blends its past and present. You can still feel the legacy of Transylvania as Vampire swoops through the trees, offering the same thrilling ride it has for decades. At the same time, the gentle river journey of The Gruffalo invites families into a magical woodland adventure filled with familiar characters.
Moreover, the area offers places to pause and refuel, including Vampire’s Burger Kitchen, ensuring you can recharge before your next adventure. The surrounding pathways, themed details and towering trees all help create a peaceful yet playful atmosphere.
All in all, Wild Woods stands as a perfect example of how Chessington evolves while respecting its roots. Whether you’re chasing thrills or stepping into a storybook, this land continues to captivate guests of all ages.
