Elmer’s Flying Jumbos

Tucked away in a colourful corner of Adventure Point at Chessington World of Adventures Resort, Elmer’s Flying Jumbos offers a charming and magical ride for younger adventurers. Inspired by the beloved children’s books by David McKee, the attraction invites guests to soar through the sky on the backs of cheerful flying elephants. As a result, it delivers a gentle adventure that perfectly captures the playful spirit of Elmer and his friends.

You’ll find the ride tucked neatly behind the Adventure Point Gift Shop. Consequently, many guests discover it as a hidden gem while exploring the busy centre of the park. However, once you spot the colourful elephants rising above the trees, the ride quickly becomes impossible to miss.

The attraction itself was built by Italian ride manufacturer Preston & Barbieri, a company well known for producing family-friendly theme park rides. Their flying elephant attractions appear in parks across the world. Yet, Chessington’s version carries its own unique charm thanks to its Elmer-inspired theme.

Before long, riders climb aboard their chosen elephant and prepare for take-off. Then, once the ride begins, the magical herd slowly lifts into the air. Each elephant circles the centre of the ride as the platform spins, creating the feeling of a gentle flight through the sky. Meanwhile, riders can control how high their elephant flies with the push of a button. Therefore, some elephants soar high above the ride area while others glide just above the ground.

Although the ride now carries the colourful world of Elmer, its history stretches all the way back to the park’s earliest years. In fact, Elmer’s Flying Jumbos first opened in 1987 within the original Circus World area of the park. However, the attraction has moved and changed its theme several times throughout its life. Over the years, it has appeared in lands such as Toy Town and Mexicana, adapting to the park’s evolving story.

Eventually, the ride found its current home in Adventure Point. Today, its bright colours and playful elephants bring smiles to families discovering it for the first time.
