Project Round Table

Chessington World of Adventures is building one of its biggest transformations in years. Project Round Table will reshape the former Wild Asia area into Minecraft World, a bold new land inspired by one of the world’s most recognisable gaming brands. For Chessington, this marks a major step forward. It also gives the park a huge opportunity to refresh a tired corner of the resort.

The project will replace much of Wild Asia and take over the nearby former glamping site. Together, these areas create a large development space close to the park entrance, World of Jumanji, and the main guest routes. As a result, Minecraft World should make a strong first impression from the moment guests arrive.

From Beanoland to Wild Asia

Before Minecraft World, this part of Chessington lived several different lives. Many guests still remember Beanoland, the colourful comic-inspired land based on The Beano. It brought playful energy to the park, with bright buildings, cheeky characters, and family rides.

Then, in 2010, Chessington transformed the area into Wild Asia. The new land introduced a jungle-inspired setting, with Kobra quickly becoming its headline attraction. Monkey Swinger, Jungle Bus, and Tuk Tuk Turmoil also helped build a fun family area with plenty of movement and colour.

However, Wild Asia slowly began to show its age. Over time, the land lost some of its original impact. Buildings looked tired, theming felt inconsistent, and guest flow became awkward in places. Therefore, Project Round Table gives Chessington the chance to completely rethink the area.

Welcome to Minecraft World

Minecraft World brings a very different style to Chessington. Instead of jungle ruins and exotic travel, guests can expect a land built around blocks, crafting, adventure, and discovery. The Minecraft theme also gives the park a huge creative playground. After all, the game thrives on imagination, exploration, and building your own story.

This should suit Chessington well. The resort has always worked best when its lands feel playful, adventurous, and family-focused. Because of that, Minecraft World feels like a strong fit for the park’s audience. Younger guests will instantly recognise the world, while older fans may enjoy seeing familiar game elements brought to life.

The land should also offer a very different visual style. Square shapes, bold colours, pixel-inspired details, and chunky structures could all help Minecraft World stand apart. Meanwhile, the nearby World of Jumanji should create an exciting contrast. Guests could move from dense jungle adventure into a block-built world of creativity.

New Attractions and Experiences

Here’s a breakdown of some of the exciting changes we know about so far:

  1. New Indoor Roller Coaster
The addition of a brand-new roller coaster is one of the most anticipated aspects of this project. Destined to be a multi-dimension coaster from the manufacturer, Intamin, this new attraction is expected to offer a thrilling experience that will draw both families and coaster enthusiasts alike.
  2. Kobra: Reborn
The former Disk’o Coaster, Kobra, is set to be transformed and relocated as part of the Minecraft update. Moving backwards from its previous home, the ride will take on a new guise but offer the same family-friendly thrills as before.
  3. New Flat Ride
Another exciting addition is a new flat ride. Early speculation suggests this could be a teacup-style attraction, providing a family-friendly ride.
  4. New “Digital” Food and Beverage Options
The proposed digital food and beverage options could go beyond mobile ordering and self-service kiosks. There’s speculation that the dining environment itself might be dynamic, with themes changing digitally throughout the day. Steve’s Lava Chicken, anyone?
  5. New Shops and Bathroom Facilities
Alongside the new rides, we will also see an expansion of its retail options and the installation of bathroom facilities. These additions may seem small, but they are crucial in improving the overall guest experience. With plans potentially detailing gender-neutral options as well.
  6. New Sensory Room Space
Another innovative feature is the addition of a sensory room. This space will offer a calming environment for guests with sensory sensitivities. Allowing them to retreat to a quiet, low-stimulation area if needed. This addition demonstrates Chessington’s commitment to inclusivity.
  7. New Themed Structures and Playscapes
The land is also set to benefit from new themed structures and playscapes. These interactive areas will offer younger guests plenty of space to explore and play. Encouraging imaginative adventures in a visually stimulating environment.

More Than Just Rides

Project Round Table is not only about headline attractions. The plans also point towards better guest facilities across the area. New toilets, improved pathways, and refreshed buildings should make the land easier to use. Meanwhile, a proposed sensory room could offer a calmer space for guests who need a break from the park’s busier environments.

The land is also expected to include themed structures and playscapes. These areas could give younger guests more freedom to explore between rides. As a result, Minecraft World may feel less like a simple ride area and more like a complete themed environment.

A Major New Chapter

Project Round Table is now under construction, and Minecraft World is becoming a reality. For Chessington, this project represents more than a retheme. It gives the resort a chance to modernise a key area, improve facilities, and introduce a theme with huge family appeal.

Of course, there is still plenty more to discover. As work continues, Chessington Buzz will follow every major update, construction milestone, and new reveal. Minecraft World is on its way, and it could become one of Chessington’s most exciting additions in years.

Updates

More Track Arrives…

21st June 2026

Exciting signs continue to appear across the Project Round Table site, and this latest update brings another big clue. More coaster track has now arrived at Chessington, with several sections stored inside the construction compound.

The latest delivery includes both red and black track pieces. The red sections immediately stand out, thanks to their thicker design and large central spine. These pieces also feature visible mounting points, which suggests they will form part of the main roller coaster’s exterior section.

Meanwhile, more black track has also arrived on site. These sections do not feature the same large spine, giving them a noticeably different look. As a result, they appear more likely to form internal parts of the ride, potentially within the growing show building.

Speaking of the show building, its exterior walls are now rising. This marks another exciting step for the future Minecraft World, as the building continues to gain shape and scale. Once complete, it should form a huge part of the land’s overall experience.

Elsewhere on the site, many of the main foundations now look close to completion. However, work still continues on the foundations for Kobra’s new home. The ride will be relocated as part of the project, giving it a new position within the transformed area.

Eagle-eyed fans may also spot a crate from Mack Rides within the compound. This could relate to the land’s second ride, which many expect to be a teacups-style attraction. For now, though, that remains one to watch.

Project Round Table keeps moving forward, and every new delivery adds another piece to the puzzle. Therefore, we cannot wait to see what appears next.

More updates soon. As always, all photos and observations come from publicly accessible spaces. Please remember never to enter active construction sites.

A Show Building Arises

16th May 2026

While the coaster track itself shows no major visible changes this time, Project Round Table has still taken a huge step forward. The main show building has now begun to rise, and it is already reshaping the site.

This structure will form the backbone of the future Minecraft World. It will likely house a major part of the new indoor coaster experience, helping bring the ride’s story, scenery, and atmosphere to life. As a result, its arrival marks one of the most exciting construction milestones so far.

Around the building, several key structural elements have also appeared. A lift shaft is now visible, which should support access for disabled guests, wheelchair users, and others who need step-free routes through the attraction. Meanwhile, other pieces of the building are waiting nearby, including staircase sections ready to be lifted into place.

Although the track has not visibly moved on, the wider project certainly has. The site now feels much more vertical, with the show building giving the development a stronger sense of scale. It also gives us a clearer idea of how large this indoor experience could become.

Work continues at a steady pace across the Project Round Table site. Therefore, the future Minecraft World feels more real with every visit. With the main structure now rising, we cannot wait to see what appears next. More updates soon.

Vertical Construction Continues

5th May 2026

Vertical construction is continuing across the Project Round Table site, and the future Minecraft World is looking more exciting by the day.

The ride hardware has now reached a major stage, with several key sections already in place. The station track has taken shape, giving us the first real sense of where guests will begin their adventure. Meanwhile, the first dark ride section is also in position, hinting at the story-led experience that could sit at the heart of the new attraction.

Further around the layout, the second launch has now been installed. This marks another exciting milestone for the coaster, especially as the ride begins to show more of its scale. The final brake run is also in place, helping to complete the picture of how the attraction will flow from start to finish.

However, the coaster track is only part of the story. Work continues across the wider site, with teams still preparing foundations for the ride’s show building. These areas will play a major role in shaping the overall experience, particularly since much of the attraction is expected to be indoors.

Project Round Table has now reached a really exciting stage. More structure is appearing, more clues are emerging, and Minecraft World feels one step closer with every update. Therefore, we cannot wait to see what rises next.

Progress is… Progress

15th November 2025

With the winter months now settling in, visible progress across the Project Round Table site appears slower than we have seen before. However, progress is still progress, and work continues behind the scenes as the future themed land takes another step forward.

At this stage, much of the activity focuses on properly preparing the land. Crews continue to clear the site, shape the ground, and bring key areas to the correct level and grade. These jobs may not look as dramatic as steelwork or ride hardware, but they play a vital role in the finished project.

Meanwhile, plenty of material has been delivered across the construction site. This suggests the team is preparing for the next major phases of work, especially once the weather improves. After all, strong foundations and careful ground preparation often set the pace for everything that follows.

The colder weather can make construction updates feel quieter. Even so, the site remains active, and the project continues to move in the right direction. As a result, this stage feels like a necessary pause before more visible changes arrive.

Project Round Table still has a long way to go, but the groundwork continues to build towards something exciting. Therefore, we will continue to watch closely. More updates soon. As always, all photos in this update were taken from publicly accessible areas.

Excavation Begins

4th October 2025

Work on preparing the former Wild Asia plot for new adventures continues, and momentum feels great across the site today. Teams are progressing well, clearing away the rubble of this old land, opening space and setting the stage for what comes next.

Excavating appears to have commenced in various areas, with works focused on establishing levels and cuts for early formations now. This is expected to be the concrete pad for the large show building that will form the backbone of this area.

It’s suspected the land will be themed to Minecraft, with the main ride building set right up against the back treeline. Inside, plans indicate a large new roller coaster that is all but confirmed to be manufactured by Intamin at this stage.

Elsewhere on the site, some subtle markings have been pinned into the ground, hinting at future activity still to be determined. It’s too early to work out what these relate to, but they signal that more layout definition is on the way soon.

More updates coming soon. All photos below were taken from publicly accessible areas within the Resort, with boundaries fully respected. Construction sites are dangerous; no risks were taken to provide this update, and safety remains the priority for all involved.

Wild Asia Has Vanished

9th August 2025

Wild Asia has vanished, leaving behind a vast field of rubble and debris awaiting removal. Crews continue working to clear the site, steadily sorting and disposing of remaining materials from the demolition phase. While progress on the ground appears slow, activity behind the scenes is almost certainly moving at full pace.

Heavy machinery remains active, shifting piles of rubble and preparing the ground for future construction. The scale of the cleared land now fully shows the ambition behind Project Round Table. From its edges, the site stretches out, a blank canvas waiting to become something truly special.

Every cleared load pushes the project closer to its next phase, even if visible change is limited right now. With a 2027 opening target, there is still plenty of time to bring the ambitious vision to life. We expect visible construction to ramp up considerably over the next few months. The transition from demolition to building will mark an exciting new chapter for this massive investment.

The groundwork is laid, and the future of this space awaits construction. More updates are coming soon as the pace picks up.

Clearance Continues

24th May 2025

Project Round Table is moving forward, with steady progress continuing across the future development site. The construction site compound has now started taking shape in the Gorilla car park, signalling the next phase of the project.

Tree clearance has noticeably increased, with many trees trimmed back, removed, and cleared to improve site access and visibility. Heavy machinery is active, working hard to prepare the area for full-scale demolition and development in the months ahead.

Tuk-Tuk Turmoil’s removal has begun, with sections of its roof now lying on the ground ready for disposal or storage. Fencing is being taken down across several areas, helping open up the space and improving site flow for contractors.

Banyan still stands tall at the heart of the land, though its days are clearly numbered as work intensifies. Demolition is just beginning, but we expect it to ramp up significantly as the site clears further. From above or afar, it’s easy to see big change is well underway, even if the pace still feels steady. More action is coming, and we’re watching every step.

Farewell Kobra

10th May 2025

Progress continues across the site, with big changes now clearly visible throughout the former Wild Asia area. Kobra has been fully dismantled, with the track, supports, and theming all removed from its former home. The once-iconic ride now sits in pieces, ready for installation at its brand-new location in the future.

Monkey Swinger has also moved off-site and is now stored in the car park, awaiting its next unknown adventure. Its departure marks the end of an era, as another Wild Asia staple disappears from the landscape.

Meanwhile, Jungle Bus has been taken away and is likely stored on a nearby service road. It’s expected to return as part of Project Play, continuing its family-friendly legacy in a fresh new home.

Tree clearance has also begun, opening up space and pushing the project into its next exciting phase. Machinery is active, and preparations for heavier construction appear to be underway behind the scenes. We’re now watching closely for the arrival of construction walls, which could appear at any moment.

The land is changing fast — and it’s all starting to feel very real. Stay tuned as we bring more updates very soon.

Progress is Progress

26th April 2025

Progress may be slow, but every step forward matters on Project Round Table. Change is happening — piece by piece. Work has begun on removing the two giant Kobra head structures that once stood proudly at either end of the ride. Crews are carefully dismantling the detailed pieces, preparing the site for bigger changes coming soon.

Meanwhile, Jungle Bus remains disassembled, its parts scattered across the former Wild Asia landscape without much recent movement. From Tiger Rock, a glance shows Banyan still standing tall, and Tuk-Tuk Turmoil’s building is still visible.

Outside of the Kobra work, visible activity is limited, and the pace feels slower than many might expect. However, this quiet phase may be short-lived as demolition on Project Play progresses steadily nearby. Once teams wrap up there, resources and focus could shift dramatically back to Project Refresh & Renew. Behind the scenes, planning and preparation work is likely still moving at full speed.

Major visible changes often come only after months of unseen groundwork and logistical planning. We’ll be keeping a close eye on the site as things continue to build momentum. Bigger shifts are undoubtedly on the horizon, and excitement continues to grow. Stay tuned for more updates very soon.

Progress Continues

18th April 2025

Things are moving fast now that planning permission is officially approved. Work across Wild Asia has stepped up significantly this week. Jungle Bus is being carefully dismantled, with teams preparing it for relocation to the nearby Project Play construction site.

Behind the scenes, the marquee tucked behind Wild Asia’s detailed facades is being stripped out. The change is bold and unmistakable, clearing the way for major transformation. Wild Asia’s peaceful atmosphere is shifting as the project gains serious momentum.

This is the first major sign that big things are truly happening. The groundwork is being laid for a new era at Chessington World of Adventures Resort. With every ride moved and every structure cleared, the vision for Project Round Table becomes clearer.

The future is being built — and we’ll be here to follow every exciting step.

Change begins…

6th April 2025

All is quiet in Wild Asia, but the signs of change are now unmistakable. Project Round Table has officially begun. Subtle groundwork is underway, signalling the start of something significant. Monkey Swinger has been fully disassembled and is now staged neatly on its usual plot. Nearby, the surrounding area is being tidied, with small clearings already made.

Cherry pickers and forklifts sit scattered across the site, hinting at the activity just beginning behind the scenes. While much of the land remains untouched, the atmosphere is shifting. Crews are clearly preparing for what’s next, laying the foundation — quite literally — for a massive transformation.

Planning permission is due imminently, and once approved, we expect things to move fast. This is just the calm before the storm. Big changes are coming, and we’ll be here every step of the way.

Stay tuned as we continue to document every block, beam and bolt that shapes the future of Chessington World of Adventures Resort.
